A 1977 medical graduate from KGMC Lucknow, He did Mastery of Surgery from PGI Chandigarh in 1981. After completing my registrar ship at PGI and a short stint as Lecturer at Medical College & Hosp. Rohtak, joined back PGI as Associate Prof. (Surgery) in 1986 and was promoted to Prof. of Gen.Surgery in 2002 and later as Prof. in GI Surgery in 2008.
Dr. Verma has obtained training in liver surgery from Germany and Japan. He has extensive experience in management of liver diseases and has performed a number of major liver resections for liver and gall bladder tumors and hydatid cysts. He has contemplated precision surgery of anastomosis of hepatic duct with intestine (Hepatico jejunostomy)with excellent results.
Minimally invasive surgery is getting more and more popular in expert hands for liver diseases. He has successfully performed laparoscopic surgery of hydatid cyst liver and laparoscopic liver resections.
Dr. Verma has been a visiting fellow at some of finest medical centres of excellence in USA, UK, Germany and Japan. He has extensive experience in teaching and training of Post graduates in General Surgery and Super specialty of GI Surgery. He has performed hundreds of major GI Onco surgeries successfully.
Dr. Verma is a pioneering Laparoscopic surgeon, he has popularized the concept of Day care Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and Laparoscopic Cancer surgery at PGI Chandigarh. Of late he has developed a new cosmetic technique of Laparoscopic cholecystectomy called “Bikini Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy”, without a visible scar.
He has delivered number of prestigious Orations, won best paper & best video award at a national conference, participated in panel discussions & symposia on Gastro intestinal Surgery and has contributed Eighty-six publications in international and national journals. Thirty-two post graduate and M. Ch. (Surg. Gastroent.) students have completed their thesis projects under his guidance & supervision.
He was elected as President of Northern chapter of Association of Surgeons of India, Society of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of India (SELSI) and twice served as Governing Council member of Association of Surgeons of India. Dr. Verma was invited as reviewer of Indian Journal of cancer, Indian journal of Surgery and Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India etc.
Dr. Verma has contributed many articles in print media to raise public awareness on cancer and minimally Access surgery.
